Wooden Camera Redesigns the Ultra Arm to Add 3rd Plane of Articulation

Wood Camera has redesigned their popular Ultra Arm articulating arm to be able to move across a 3rd plane, and therefore give the arm a greater range of motion. The arm has been very popular since its introduction in 2016, as it provided camera operators with an accessory that provided room for added accessories that could be moved out of the way when needed.

But up until this new model, the range of motion was only across two planes, so adding a third plane of motion makes the Ultra Arm even more useful for mounting onboard monitors, lens control systems, and other camera accessories. The redesign also provides for greater tension strength, giving the arm the ability to carry greater loads.

“We’ve always loved the versatility of our Ultra Arm ball clamp design, but we’re always looking for ways to improve,” says Dominick Aiello, Senior Director of Accessories at Creative Solutions, “so we upgraded the tension strength while adding even more articulation to the design.”

As part of the Universal Ultra Arm v2 kit, the redesigned double ball clamp offers interchangeable 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 knobs and non-slip rubber pads on each end. There are also four locating pins in the Ultra Arm base, that can be installed for use with SmallHD and ARRI accessory mounts.

Wooden Camera has also made a custom toolset known as the Ultra Arm v2 Customizer, which allows the filmmaker to create a custom design Ultra Arm with a variety of mounts and lengths for special situations.

Users can choose 3/8-16, NATO Clamp, Hot Shoe, Super Clamp, and even the aforementioned Universal (Combo 1/4-20 & 3/8-16) Mount. The Ultra Arm utilizes the existing 25mm ball system for easy mount replacement.

The retail price for the Universal Ultra Arm v2 combo kit begins at $105, with the kit available in mini, 3”, 5”, and 8” lengths. The Customizer retail price varies according to the parts chosen but starts at around $45. More details can be found at WoodenCamera.com.
