Week 29 in review: Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 renders surface, a bunch of new phones announced

For yet another week, the Nothing phone (1) is dominating our news section but this time around everyone was eager to see what our reviewers had to say about it since the phone went official last week.

We finally got the first official-looking press renders of the upcoming Samsung foldables – the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4. In other not-so-great Samsung news, the company allegedly decided to scrape the Galaxy S22 FE release in favor of manufacring more Galaxy S22 Ultra units.

Xiaomi revealed the Redmi K50i 5G in China with Dimensity 8100 SoC and 144Hz LCD panel. Nubia made headlines with its Z40S Pro smartphone running the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip.

Two other phones got to see broad daylight this week and that’s the iQOO 10 and 10 Pro – both running the SD 8+ Gen 1 with the latter boasting 200W fast charging.

And at long last WhatsApp brought support for cross-platform chat history transfer between iOS and Android. A long-awaited feature for years is finally available.

Let’s look past all the hype and answer the important question – is this a good phone?

The renders reveal little in terms of design changes.

Oppo and Mobvoi will be the first to launch smartwatches with the new chipset.

OnePlus will hold an in-person event in New York to unveil the 10T to the local market.

It’s joined by the Redmi Buds 3 Lite.

The next Fan Edition smartphone will arrive in 2023.

The Google Pay app is now Google Wallet (again).

There will be official teaser over the next three weeks, for the phones, but also the wearables that will be unveiled on the 10th.

The platform is adding an “Add a home” feature that will change the way the service is priced.

Both use the 8+ Gen 1 chip, in fact, in addition to the custom V1+ chip that helps with image processing from the GPU and the camera.

Countries in North America, Asia, Australia, and Europe are all getting the smartphone.

Mobvoi will follow-up with a new TicWatch “this fall”.

That enormous 1″ sensor plus the two other Sony sensors on the back cost less than the Snapdragon chipset or the Samsung-made display.

William Lu, chief of Redmi, confirmed the brand is also getting a phone with the new chip.

The company allegedly plans to focus on the quality of the remaining cameras.

That display will also be slightly shorter and wider, bringing it closer to a more conventional aspect ratio.

There are three models: one with 80W charging, one with 120W (including an 18GB/1TB model) and a sci-fi themed special edition unit.

The phone is INR43,999 ($550), the earbuds cost INR19,990 ($250).

Some reports suggest it is the OnePlus 10T for the domestic audience.

This might be the last update for the 15.x branch.

Samsung hasn’t announced the new Z Flip4 and Z Fold4, nor the new watches and buds, but the reservation process is simple and doesn’t require a downpayment.
