Vivo announces V25 and V25 Pro smartphones with 64MP camera and 4K video: Digital Photography Review

Vivo has announced a pair of new mid-range smartphones, the V25 and V25 Pro. The new phones prioritize style and, as is often the case with Vivo devices, photography features.

The V25 series follows in the footsteps of vivo’s prior V series smartphones and promise flagship-level photographic performance. Both phones incorporate the same primary camera systems, including a 64MP primary camera with optical image stabilization, a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera. The main camera has a 25mm equivalent focal length and F1.9 max aperture. The ultrawide camera has a 16mm (equivalent) lens and delivers a 120-degree field of view. The macro camera has an F2.4 aperture.

The self-facing cameras differ between the V25 and V25 Pro, with the former offering a 50MP selfie cam and the latter incorporating a 32MP front camera. It’s not often we see a ‘Pro’ model with a worse camera spec than the non-pro smartphone, but vivo must believe the V25’s target audience cares more about selfies. Both phones include Eye AF and Multi-Shot Portrait, allowing users to apply special effects to their selfies. The V25 Pro also incorporates AI-powered skin retouching.

Photography is about more than specs. It also requires intelligent software, especially when getting the most from smartphones’ relatively small sensors and lenses. Vivo’s ‘Super Night Algorithm’ promises to adaptively restore warm and cool colors for true-to-life night shots. There’s also a new Real-Time Extreme Night Vision feature that allows users to manually adjust the exposure intensity when previewing a low-light shot, allowing additional real-time brightness and noise control adjustments.

Super Night technology is also available when recording video. Both smartphones capture 4K video at up to 30 frames per second. The phones include hybrid image stabilization to make video clearer.

While the V25 and V25 Pro are similar in many ways, they differ in size. The V25 is thinner, at 7.79mm (0.31″). The V25 Pro is 8.62mm (0.34″). The V25 Pro incorporates a curved 3D display. Speaking of the displays, the V25 has a 6.44″ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution. It supports HDR 10+ content. The V25 Pro has a larger, curved 6.56″ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p display.

Both smartphones use MediaTek Dimensity chips. The V25 uses a Dimensity 800 processor, while the V25 Pro uses a Dimensity 1300. The V25 Pro has a larger 4,830mAh battery compared to the V25’s 4,500mAh battery. Both phones support fast charging: the Pro supports 66W FlashCharge, and the standard V25 supports 44W FlashCharge.

The vivo V25 and vivo V25 Pro smartphones are available now in more than 20 markets throughout Asia, Latin America, Mexico and the Middle East. The stylish phones come in blue, black and gold colorways. The blue V25 Pro and gold V25 feature color-changing glass. The colors shift when viewed at different angles in UV light.
