Tesla Cars Will Detect Potholes And Ajdust The Suspension

The good thing about electric vehicles is that almost everything can be optimized through software updates. For instance, recently, Elon Musk’s company confirmed that the Tesla cars will get a new software update that will prolong the cars’ lives. Particularly, after the update, the vehicles will scan for rough roads such as potholes and adjust the suspension height in order to avoid damage.

Agree that drivers not only look at the road, road signs, etc. but also take care of their cars when driving. In other words, they try not only to remain in the lane but also to avoid potholes. In this sense, the new software update that the Tesla cars will get is an additional feature that makes self-driving more human-like. For this, the cars should be able to handle a wide range of different scenarios. They include not only different weather but also road conditions.

As the company proves, the Tesla cars will be able to see them better than human drivers. Moreover, often when we see them, either it’s too late or we have no time to make the right decisions because we have not assessed the overall situation, cars near us, etc. As for electric vehicles, they always “keep the fingers on the pulse” and know what’s happening around them. So they will make correct decisions instantly.

The Large Customer Bade Will Help Tesla Cars To Provide Better Performance

Tesla’s software is capable of providing good results due to its large customer base and data collected from Autopilot. Thanks to data, the system can teach its neural network to handle them.

A couple of years ago, Elon Musk said that Tesla’s Autopilot will detect potholes. What’s more important, it will create mini-maps to remember them and avoid them in the future.

In a new 2022.20 software update, Tesla’s release notes read:

Tesla Adaptive Suspension will now adjust ride height for an upcoming rough road section. This adjustment may occur at various locations, subject to availability, as the vehicle downloads rough road map data generated by Tesla vehicles.

Thus, Tesla Autopilot will scan the roads for further evaluation.

Here are Tesla’s instructions on how to activate the feature:

The instrument cluster will continue to indicate when the suspension is raised for comfort. To enable this feature, tap Controls > Suspension > Adaptive Suspension Damping, and select the Comfort or Auto setting.

However, this feature is not going to be available on all Tesla cars. Only those that support adaptive suspension will get the update. Thus, only the new Model S and Model X vehicles will have it.
