Skate fans were met with shock earlier today, when details about the new title of the popular franchise, which is currently under-development became public online.
The information came from a closed playtest that many fans of the series have signed up for. While all participants signed NDAs, the entire playtest somehow showed up on online platforms for players to download and try it out.
Through the playtest, fans have managed to find out a ton of new details about the upcoming title of the series, which returns for the first time since 2010.
According to the reports, fans playtested the title on a small section of an untextured version map called “Fun City”, which was shown in the game’s most recent trailer. The map in question is a mixture of old locations that fans might remember from titles like the original Skate and its sequels.
The title runs on the Frostbite Engine, which is used by many of EA’s sports franchises. The game sports two camera options, which showcase a higher and lower camera angle.
Regarding the controls, players have three different options in Classic, Streamlined and Experienced, and depending on their playstyle, players can tune their gameplay from ultra-realistic to the arcade style as well. When it came to the game’s ragdoll physics, the developers seemed to have improved it a ton in comparison to previous iterations of the series. Additionally, the game feels slightly faster compared to Skate 3. However, leaks suggest that it hasn’t lost any realism with its gameplay.
Skate 4 is rumored to be offering character customization, and it also includes a level system, which grants players with rewards like clothing and other items. There’s even an in-game currency that players can use to buy clothes and crafting materials that will be required to build and customize their home park, which is a training park that fans can own for their personal use.
There’s also talks about the game featuring a Career mode that feels more on the lines of Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. Along with that, the idea of an online career mode has been flouted as well. However, reports also mentioned that players didn’t see anything about the franchise’s quirky game mode in Hall of Meat.
The leaks have also stated that Skate 4 might be vying for a release date around Halloween, as the game includes a ton of stickers for the popular holiday. However, at the moment, fans might want to take this info with a grain of salt.
