The Overwatch 2 reveal event on June 16 revealed quite a lot of what is to come for the Overwatch 2 free-to-play PvP launch in October. There were features of new mythic skins, along with content regarding the new watchpoint pack that grants beta access and more. However, that was just part as there is even more talking about battle passes and nine-week seasonal updates.
How will the Overwatch 2 battle pass work?
It appears that every new season of Overwatch will have a new battle pass to work towards, and most of all, it seems like there will be new content coming every nine weeks or so. In each of the new seasons, it appears there will be a new battle pass, making the battle passes last for around 67 days.
The first season will begin on October 4 when the Overwatch 2 free-to-play launch kicks off, whereas season 2 begins on October 6, giving players exactly nine weeks to play through the game’s first season. On the other hand, we don’t know when Overwatch’s third season begins, but it’s safe to presume it will be on February 7.
We also know that the battle pass system is replacing the loot box system from Overwatch 1. Instead, players will be able to target the skins they want within that season time frame by playing through the battle pass, rather than relying on gambling through luck in free and paid boxes to get the rewards they want. There will also be a new in-game shop, which will have skins on sale and other cosmetics that players can buy if they so wish.
As for the actual mechanics of the battle pass, that remains to be seen how it will work. Some passes go to 100 levels, while others go to around 50. Considering the shorter seasonal content coming to the game, we expect there to be around 50 tiers, which seems like a fair assumption to complete on time.
Other than that, we do not know much else keep your eyes peeled closer to launch for more updates. Chances are we will get an in-depth look at the first Overwatch 2 battle pass closer to launch as they show off the cosmetics and the big prizes to unlock.
