If you’re looking forward to experiencing Medal of Honor in a virtual reality environment, you might want to clear those old files and unfinished Photoshop documents first. It looks like Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will take up a good chunk of your hard drive.
In a reviewer’s guide published by Polygon that accompanied a recent press preview event, the minimum system requirements for Respawn Entertainment’s VR experience were spelled out. They’re pretty hefty, which is expected of virtual reality, but of particular note is the necessary free space. The specs are:
Yeah, that’s 170 GB, which is probably a light load compared to the 340 GB you’ll need cleared out for unpacking. The recommendation of SSD or NVMe space means that’s not cheap space, either, coming from someone who just put both kinds of drive in his new computer.
File size has been an ongoing beast that developers have had to wrangle with. Games like Fortnite and Call of Duty have struggled to keep their install sizes low while adding more content, so it seems like storage space will continue to be an issue headed into the next generation of consoles.
As for virtual reality, it makes sense why high-fidelity textures and graphics might be beefier in these spaces. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond certainly seems like it’s trying to not just be a tech demo, but a full-blown Medal of Honor game. Still, it might behoove VR users to have some extra file storage cleared out, just to be ready for launch day.
Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond charges into the fray on Dec. 11, 2020.
