Marvel Executive Rebukes Rumors of an Interconnected Video Game Universe Like the MCU

Marvel Games has reiterated that it has no plans to create an interconnected universe with its video games like the MCU.

Following the release of Iron Man in 2008, Marvel Studios has built upon a multi-billion dollar franchise in the MCU or the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which consists of films and TV shows based on characters from comic books, who live in the same-shared multiverse.

For years, Marvel lagged behind DC in the video game department, as the latter pushed out award-winning franchises like The Batman Arkham series and Injustice. However, following the release of Insomniac’s Spider-Man title in 2018, Marvel has been on quite a roll.

Marvel’s latest addition to the world game is an Iron Man title from EA Motive.

Since then, Marvel has pushed out titles based around the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Avengers, and Iron Man. Furthermore, in the coming years, fans will get to see more titles set around other characters like Wolverine, Black Panther and Captain America.

With so many characters being introduced soon, it would be hard to imagine Marvel from preventing these characters from interacting with each other across titles. However, Bill Rosemann, the VP and creative director of Marvel Games stated in his interview with Gamesindustry.biz that the company has no such intentions with its video game IPs, as they don’t want to impede studios from telling the story that they want.

While Marvel is looking forward to publishing more titles in the future, Disney has also set its eyes on building up the Star Wars universe with a new video game every six months.
