Killing Floor 2: Tidal Terror Summer Update – What’s New?

Last Updated:

Killing Floor 2 is an immensely popular title, mostly thanks to the fact that it’s a ton of fun to blast zombies with your friends in the game. If you’re a hardcore fan, then you probably know that they release yearly free updates to keep people interested in playing the game, and this year is no different. Today, we’ll take a look at the Killing Floor 2: Tidal Terror update.

Killing Floor 2: Tidal Terror – New Map: RIG

As you can probably have imagined, the new update brings with it a brand new map. This time around, KF2 is giving us Rig, a community map that the KF2 team is officially endorsing. Rig, as you can probably guess from the name, is set on a deep-sea oil rig, though it has a bit of a KF2 twist as it also houses a secret lab. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, and the map is sprawling with loads of places that could trip you up if you’re not careful.

To cap it all off, there’s a pretty severe rainstorm happening as you play, so if anything, you’ll have a pretty fitting backdrop to your zombie-murdering spree. Another big factor in the map’s fun level is the lack of collectibles. At least right now, there doesn’t seem to be anything hiding around the map for you to shoot, but that’s pretty common when it comes to the community-turned-legitimate maps. On the plus side, the map is compatible with Survival, Weekly, Endless, and Objective game modes, so you’re not restricted on that front.

Killing Floor 2: Tidal Terror New Weekly Gamemode

Along with the new map mentioned above, the new Killing Floor 2: Tidal Terror summer update comes with a brand new weekly game mode that will be put into the current weekly rotation. Arsenal Ascent is probably pretty familiar to anyone who played Gun Game back in the day, as the goal is to start out with a weak weapon that keeps getting replaced with a more-powerful one after you’ve got enough kills with it. Obviously, since this game is mostly co-op, not competitive, things will work a bit differently here.

The waves of zeds that come after you will be endless until you reach the final level of weapon upgrades. At that point, you’ll unlock the final boss wave that must be complete, but that’s when the game will end.

New Weapons Too!

Of course, it’s not just maps and game modes, the annual summer update has also bought some new weapons for different classes. There’s a list of them here, but we’ll get into them in more detail below:

  • HRG Crossboom – Demolitionist
  • HRG Head Hunters – Sharpshooter
  • Sentinel – Commando
  • Reducto Ray – Survivalist

The first two weapons on the list are both HRG variants of already existing guns you can find in the game. The Crossboom is literally just a crossbow, but it shoots exploding blots, which is honestly a big enough difference for our liking. The Head Hunter is an alt version of the Hemogoblin that makes zombies’ heads explode if you shoot them with it. Naturally.

The last two weapons are both DLC weapons, so you’ll have to fork out a bit for each one. The Sentinel is literally a drone that flies around doing all of your work for you, which is a nice touch if you play solo and often feel a bit overwhelmed. The last weapon is straight out of a sci-fi B-movie, as it shrinks zeds down in size. When zeds are smaller, they take more damage, and if you use it enough, you can actually cause something called an ‘evisceration death,’ whatever that means.

Killing Floor 2: Tidal Terror Summer Event

One of the biggest updates is the inclusion of a regular seasonal event. As well as enjoying the new maps and guns, you’ll also have to work towards the list of objectives we’ve featured below:

  • Not the best Tourists – Kill 1500 zeds on any map and any mode
  • Weekly Splashdown – Complete the weekly game mode on Rig
  • Top Surfer – Complete 100 waves on Rig
  • Overboard! – Throw 50 zeds to the sea on Rig
  • Wide Wide Sea – Complete wave 15 on Endless Hard or higher difficulty

If you play the game at a lower difficulty, some of the tasks on the list might be a bit tough. That said, it might be worth doing your best since completing all of the challenges will give you the Deep Sea Trident backpack accessory for your characters to wear.
