Preview:
Ireland will host New Zealand in the 3 matches ODI series which will begin on Sunday. After their spirited performances in the recently concluded T20I series against India, Ireland are set to host another full-time member in both ODIs and T20Is. They are getting better and better from series to series and the 2-1 ODI series win over West Indies earlier this year is evidence of it. They have named a 14-member squad for this series against Kiwis which includes fresh faces Stephen Doheny and Graham Hume who earned maiden ODI call-ups whereas Andrew Balbirnie will continue to lead the side. They always perform well in their home conditions and have drawn their last couple of series against South Africa and Zimbabwe 1-1.
New Zealand on the other hand has not included their key players Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, and Tim Southee for this tour as part of workload management. Southpaw Tom Latham will lead the side in the ODIs and Mitchell Santner has been given the captaincy responsibilities for the T20Is. Dane Cleaver has been included in the ODI squad for his consistent domestic performances. Adam Milne is now completely recovered from a hamstring injury and will bolster the pace unit. Glenn Phillips and Finn Allen have more chances of making their ODI debuts. They whitewashed Netherlands and Bangladesh 3-0 in their last two series and will look to repeat similar performances on this tour.
