Here are 15 filmmaking items you can buy for under $100

Once you get hooked to them, photography and filmmaking can become pretty expensive hobbies. But it’s good to know that there are many items that offer a fantastic price-quality ratio. In fact, there’s a bunch of gear you can buy for under $100, whether you’re a photographer or a filmmaker.

In this video, Caleb Pike of DSLR Video Shooter gives you 15 affordable items that will kickstart your filmmaking career or just be a great, yet cheap addition to the gear you own.

Two of the items are currently over $100, but not by too much. And of course, you can also wait for discounts to get them.

  1. Feelworld FW759 camera monitor ($93.99): while the resolution isn’t the highest there can be, according to Caleb, the value for money is more than great with this 7” monitor.
  2. Rode VideoMic GO II ($94): a fantastic microphone at an affordable price, and possibly the best budget microphone on the market. Check out our review to learn more.
  3. Impact Heavy Duty Air Cushioned Stand ($69.95): sturdy enough to support even heavier gear, and air-cushioned to protect both your gear and you from damage and injuries.
  4. Impact Combo Boom Stand ($99.95): sturdy and very versatile considering that it goes very high up, but also has an elbow.
  5. Konica 40mm f/1.8 lens ($50 and up): a nice, compact and fast pancake lens is just one of many vintage lenses you can use for shooting video.
  6. Nitze Stingray Handle ($67.99): a comfortable handle with plenty of mounting points and an angle for adding monitor mounts.
  7. Nitze Lil Stingray Handle ($49.99): this handle has the same qualities as the previous one, but it’s smaller and cheaper.
  8. NICEYRIG Camera Baseplate ($67.99): a versatile and great value-for-money baseplate.
  9. Aputure MC RGBWW LED Light ($90): a small, but powerful LED light with tons of different options.
  10. Falcom F22 Quick Release System ($24.90): a perfect system for quickly attaching and releasing a bunch of different accessories.
  11. V-Mount Mini Power Plate ($79.99)
  12. Mini V-Mount Batteries ($160) – one of the items that’s over $100, but as I mentioned, you can wait for a discount.
  13. HDMI/SDI Bi-Directional Micro Converter 3G ($65): as Caleb calls it, “one of the coolest video adapter boxes ever.”
  14. HDMI/SDI Bi-Directional Micro Converter 12G ($149): another great item over $100. Maybe Caleb got it at a discount and so can you. 🙂
  15. Magnus VT350 Video Tripod ($99.95): at just under $100, this is an incredibly smooth and lightweight tripod that will last you long.

What I’d add to this list is the $50 light bracelet KYU-6, it’s something I absolutely always have in my gear bag. Do you already own any of these items? What are some of your go-to filmmaking or photography items under $100?
