Get ready to rock as Ultra Adventure Week comes to Pokémon GO

Last Updated:

One of our favorite Pokémon GO events is finally back – and bigger than ever for 2022. Adventure Week returns after a two-year break, featuring all the best Rock and Fossil Pokémon. And Trainers even succeeded in the Ultra Unlock Global Challenges over the GO Fest weekend, meaning there are more bonuses than ever.

Adventure Week comes to Pokémon GO every year, but hasn’t returned during the global pandemic, meaning the last Adventure Week took place in 2019. But it seems as though Niantic are coming back with a bang, as Adventure Week 2022 features two new Pokémon, rare and new shinies, free incubators and loads more. Let’s take a look at everything taking place during Pokémon GO Ultra Adventure Week 2022.

Rock up for Pokémon GO Ultra Adventure Week 2022

Tyrunt and Amaura make their Pokémon GO debut

Two fan-favorite Pokémon from Gen VI are finally coming to Pokémon GO for Adventure Week. Tyrunt, the Royal Heir Pokémon, and Amaura, the Ice-type Tundra Pokémon, were Pokémon X and Y’s Fossil Pokémon, revived in-game from the Jaw and Sail Fossils, respectively. Like their other Fossil predecessors, Trainers won’t require Fossil items in Pokémon GO to encounter Tyrunt and Amaura, and they will simply be made available in the wild, from 7km Eggs and from Field Research tasks.

Again, like other Pokémon GO Fossils, it is believed Tyrantrum and Aurorus can then be evolved from Tyrunt and Amaura with just 50 of their respective Candies, so be sure to use those Pinap Berries when encountering the new sprites! Since this is their first appearance in Pokémon GO, we aren’t going to be lucky enough to encounter their shiny variants just yet, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of shiny Pokémon to look forward to during Adventure Week…

Shiny Tirtouga and shiny and Archen make their first appearances

Gen V’s Fossil Pokémon are Tirtouga and Archen. Since there has been no Adventure Week since 2019, these two Fossil Pokémon were instead released to Pokémon GO during the Trade Evolution event in January 2020. While the two Pokémon have been in the game’s data for over two years, they are considerably rare, so seeing them during this event will help many Trainers yet to encounter the Black & White Fossils, even in their non-shiny form.

Even more excitingly, though, both Tirtouga and Archen will be appearing in Pokémon GO in their shiny forms for the first time. If you are hoping to encounter these new shinies during Pokémon GO Adventure Week, you should be making sure you collect as many new 7km Eggs as possible by opening your Friends Gifts during event hours. You may even find rare Field Research tasks that can result in an encounter with Tirtouga or Archen. However, these two won’t be appearing any more frequently in the wild, nor will they be heading up Raid Battles, so they’ll remain relatively elusive. Think yourself incredibly lucky if you encounter a shiny!

Shiny Cranidos and Shiny Shieldon

Heading back yet another Gen, the Fossil Pokémon for Gen IV were Cranidos and Shieldon. These have now both been in Pokémon GO for a couple of years, and their shiny variants were released as part of 2021’s Ultra Unlock: Time event. However, with these two Pokémon also remaining fairly rare when not appearing during an event, their shinies may still be missing from your Pokedex, much like they are from ours!

Thanks to Pokémon GO Ultra Adventure Week 2022, both Cranidos and Shieldon will be appearing more frequently anyway, showing up in the wild, 7km Eggs, and Field Research task reward encounters. However, during a special Ultra Unlock Research Day, Cranidos and Shieldon Field Research tasks will not only be more common, but you’ll also have a higher chance of encountering a shiny version as a reward for your Research skills, which leads us to…

Ultra Unlock: Research Day

Thanks to the hard work of Trainers across the globe during GO Fest 2022, just one of the new additions to Adventure Week is Research Day. Taking place on Sunday, June 12, between 11am and 3pm local time, Research Day will be rounding out Adventure Week. Not just giving you a chance to encounter the last few Fossil Pokémon you can, but also releasing a new, temporary roster of wild encounters for the four-hour period.

  • Onix
  • Rhyhorn
  • Sudowoodo

As mentioned above, the event bonuses don’t end there. Cranidos and Shieldon Limited Research Tasks will be obtained from Pokéstops, with these Pokémon’s shiny counterparts more likely to be encountered, as well. Plus, Tyrunt and Amaura will be appearing more frequently in the wild depending on the time. Amaura will start the Research Day event, appearing more frequently between 11am and 12pm, with Tyrunt then taking over until 1pm. Amaura will then return with high frequency encounters between 1pm and 2pm, before Tyrunt comes back into the spotlight again for the final hour of the event. Despite the warm weather outside, you may even spot some chilly weather taking hold during Amaura’s hours.

Other Adventure Week bonuses to dig up

There’s so much happening during Adventure Week, it’s hard to summarise in one article. Just a few more exciting things happening during the event include double XP for every Pokéstop spun, and the classic Adventure Week bonus – five times the XP for spinning a Pokéstop for the first time. You will also notice that Eggs placed in an incubator during the event will require half the distance to hatch. Luckily, a Timed Research story encouraging Trainers to explore even more will reward players with three free Incubators, so you’ll be able to hatch plenty of those 7km Eggs (in just 3.5km!). And, speaking of Eggs, Trainers will also notice a post-event boost to Adventure Sync rewards on Monday, June 13, 2022, celebrating your efforts during Adventure Week.

Finally, Unown F will be appearing in One-Star Raids, and you may even encounter the Symbol Pokémon in its shiny, silver form. To see the full list of Pokémon appearing during Ultra Adventure Week 2022, check out the official news post.

When does Pokémon GO Ultra Adventure Week 2022 take place?

Pokémon GO Adventure Week will kick off on Tuesday June 7, 2022, at 10am local time. The event will run until Sunday, June 12, until 8pm local time, so you’ll have nearly a full week of adventuring!
