All characters in Genshin Impact have a particular stat that levels up alongside their base stats.
For Heizou, this extra stat is Anemo DMG Bonus. This will increase the DMG of his Normal Attacks, Charged Attacks, Plunging Attacks, Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst.
Once you’ve obtained Heizou and maxed him to Level 20, he can be further leveled up through Ascension. The materials you’ll need to Ascend Heizou are as follows:
Level | Ascension Materials |
---|---|
Level 20 | Prithiva Topaz Sliver x 1 Onikabuto x 3 Treasure Hoarder Insignia x 3 |
Level 40 | Prithiva Topaz Fragment x 3 Runic Fang x 2 Onikabuto x 10 Treasure Hoarder Insignia x 15 |
Level 50 | Prithiva Topaz Fragment x 6 Runic Fang x 4 Onikabuto x 20 Silver Raven Insignia x 12 |
Level 60 | Prithiva Topaz Chunk x 3 Runic Fang x 8 Onikabuto x 30 Silver Raven Insignia x 18 |
Level 70 | Prithiva Topaz Chunk x 6 Runic Fang x 12 Onikabuto x 45 Golden Raven Insignia x 12 |
Level 80 | Prithiva Topaz Gemstone x 6 Runic Fang x 20 Onikabuto x 60 Golden Raven Insignia x 24 |
Prithiva Topaz Slivers, Fragments, Chunks, and Gemstones can be obtained by defeating the Anemo Hypostasis, located in Mondstadt, and Maguu Kenki, located in Inazuma.
Runic Fangs can be obtained by defeating the Ruin Serpenti, located in The Chasm, Liyue.
Onikabuto can be found across Inazuma, clinging to trees. They are mainly located around Mt. Yougou on Narukami Island, and Tatarasuna on Kannazuka Island.
Treasure Hoarder Insignias, Silver Raven Insignias and Golden Raven Insignias can be obtained by defeating Treasure Hoarders, which can be found all over Teyvat.
To make Heizou stronger, you’ll need to upgrade his talents. The materials you need are as follows:
The Teachings, Guide and Philosophies of Transience can be obtained by completing the Domain of Mastery: Reign of Violet every Monday, Thursday, and Sunday. Meanwhile, The Meaning of Aeons is a potential drop from the Weekly Raiden Shogun Challenge.
Since Heizou can be built two different ways, he has a few different weapon options.
Weapon | Rarity |
---|---|
Sacrificial Fragments | 4-star |
Mappa Mare | 4-star |
An Elemental Mastery-focused Heizou doesn’t have many weapon options in Genshin Impact, but the ones he can use both give him a good amount of Elemental Mastery. Sacrificial Fragments give him more Elemental Mastery than Mappa Mare, and its passive gives him a good chance of resetting his Skill’s CD, especially at high Refinement.
On the other hand, while Mappa Mare has a lower Elemental Mastery substat, it’s F2P-friendly and its passive grants Heizou an Elemental DMG Bonus buff. Sacrificial Fragments is likely your go-to choice, but if you don’t have one, Mappa Mare will serve you well.
Weapon | Rarity |
---|---|
Skyward Atlas | 5-star |
Memory of Dust | 5-star |
Kagura’s Verity | 5-star |
Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds | 5-star |
The Widsith | 4-star |
Solar Pearl | 4-star |
Dodoco Tales | 4-star |
For a standard Genshin Impact DPS build, most of the 5-star Catalysts work on Heizou. His best in slot is Skyward Atlas, thanks to its high amount of ATK and reliable Elemental DMG Bonus buff.
However, Memory of Dust can also work well as a replacement. Alternatively, for some juicy CRIT stats, both Lost Prayer and Kagura’s Verity work relatively well on Heizou as stat sticks. However, Heizou may struggle to stack up Lost Prayer’s passive due to you needing to switch out to his supports, and he’ll only gain one stack of Kagura’s Verity’s passive.
In terms of 4-star weapons, The Widsith is your best bet. With its high CRIT DMG substat and strong buffs, it can be a powerhouse of a weapon especially at Max Refinement.
Solar Pearl also works well on Heizou if you purchase the Battle Pass, with a decent CRIT Rate substat and a passive which boosts Normal Attack, Elemental Skill DMG and Elemental Burst DMG.
Dodoco Tales can work in a pinch if you have it thanks to having a good amount of ATK, and its passive which increases Normal and Charged Attack DMG. However, this isn’t recommended over The Widsith or Solar Pearl if you have them.
Heizou’s best Artifact set for both builds is 4-Piece Viridescent Venerer.
The 4-Piece set, which shreds your enemies’ Elemental RES, is highly beneficial to your team, and helps them deal more DMG with their off-field DMG application. The increased Swirl DMG is also highly beneficial for Heizou’s own DMG output.
However, if you don’t have a decent 4-Piece set, a standard DPS build can also use 2-Piece VV and any 2-Piece ATK +18% set. Alternatively, an Elemental Mastery build could use 2-Piece VV and 2-Piece Wanderer’s Troupe for the additional Elemental Mastery.
A standard DPS Heizou in Genshin Impact can also make use of 4-Piece Shimenawa’s Reminiscence, which increases his Normal and Charged Attack DMG at the cost of not reliably using his Burst. Alternatively, he can also use 4-Piece Echoes of An Offering, which will also increase his Normal Attack DMG.
For low-level players, 4-Piece Instructor works well until you’re able to get higher level Artifacts.
For your Artifact main stats, you’ll want to run:
Artifact | Main Stat |
---|---|
Sands | Elemental Mastery |
Goblet | Elemental Mastery |
Circlet | Elemental Mastery |
Artifact | Main Stat |
---|---|
Sands | ATK% |
Goblet | Anemo DMG Bonus |
Circlet | CRIT DMG / Rate |
In terms of Artifact substats, you’ll want to focus on ATK%, Elemental Mastery, a little Energy Recharge and both CRIT DMG and CRIT Rate. However, if you’re going for an Elemental Mastery build, you won’t need to build any CRIT stats on him as Swirl cannot CRIT.
His Elemental Skill, Heartstopper Strike, can be either pressed or held. On press, Heizou launches a Heartstopper Strike that deals Anemo DMG. On hold, he charges energy to unleash an even stronger blow.
He obtains the Declension effect while charging, which will increase the power of the Heartstopper Strike. When the skill button is released or the skill duration ends, he strikes forward, dealing Anemo DMG. Declension increases the power of the next Heartstopper Strike. Max 4 stacks. When you possess 4 Declension stacks, the Conviction effect is produced, which causes the next Heartstopper Strike to be even stronger and have a larger AoE.
His Elemental Burst, Windmuster Kick, makes Heizou leap into the air and use the Fudou Style Vacuum Slugger, kicking his opponent. The Vacuum Slugger explodes upon hit and creates an Arresting Windtunnel that pulls in nearby objects and opponents, dealing AoE Anemo DMG.
When Fudou Style Vacuum Slugger hits enemies affected by Hydro, Pyro, Cryo or Electro, it afflicts them with Windmuster Iris. Moments later, Windmuster Iris explodes and dissipates, dealing AoE DMG of the corresponding elemental type. Fudou Style Vacuum Slugger afflicts a maximum of four enemies with the Windmuster Iris. A single enemy can’t afflicted by Irises of different elemental types at the same time.
Heizou, similarly to Sucrose, is a handy 4-star character thanks to being an Anemo Catalyst character, and his Elemental RES shredding courtesy of 4-Piece VV. No matter how you build him, his main purpose on a team is to act as a driver, using his Anemo-infused attacks to constantly Swirl and create Elemental Reactions.
Because of this, he works best alongside characters who have good off-field DMG application. One good team comp is a variation of the National Team, which consists of himself, Xiangling, Xingqiu and Bennett. Both Xiangling and Xingqiu’s strong off-field Bursts synergize nicely with Heizou’s constant Swirls, and Bennett further increases the team’s DMG output.
He also works well on Electro-Charged teams, which consist of himself, a Hydro character such as Xingqiu or Kokomi, and two Electro characters; you could use a combination of Beidou, Fischl or Yae Miko, who all have great off-field Electro application. Like with the National Team, Heizou acts as a driver, using a combination of his Normal and Charged Attacks and his high-DMG Skill to proc various reactions.
