If Playground Games still kept things a bit too realistic for your taste in the intoxicatingly fun Forza Horizon 4, then maybe tomorrow’sfree update will bend the open-world racer to your will. Tomorrow, on all compatible Xbox platforms and PC, Horizon 4 will get a new challenge editor and an accompanying mode called Super7, which will pit drivers against the wildest challenges the community can dream up.
The new trailer for Super7 and the Blueprint Builder-made courses it features immediately brings to mind Nadeo’s Trackmania games or the wacky vehicular challenges you can take on in Grand Theft Auto Online. With a wide selection of premade course parts-ramps, bends, tunnels, and barriers-Blueprint Builder will let players construct ridiculous tracks throughout Horizon 4’s beautiful British countryside.
If you’d like your Horizon gameplay to have more jaw-clencher jumps and loop-de-loops in it, then you’ll also be able to subject other players to your maniacal motorist whims. In Super7 mode, Forza Horizon 4 will serve players seven surprise challenges from the community in a row. Best the whole lot of them and you’ll earn a special reward.
This is far from the first time that Playground has looked beyond the Horizon to pull some other influences into its latest Forza title. It was just about a year ago that Horizon 4 got its free take on a battle royale mode (which, hilariously, starts all drivers out in Mini Coopers), and before that, the paid Lego Speed Champions expansion applied a brick-built makeover to a few real-life cars and large swathes of the open world.
Forza Horizon 4 just received a next-gen optimization update with the launch of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, so if you’ve got one of those new consoles, now might be a doubly good time to load it up. Our Editor-in-Chief Kat Bailey even noted that Horizon 4 was her most-played title on the Series X at the time of the console review because of its “impressive enhancements” for next-gen. If you’ve not picked it up, it’s also part of Xbox Game Pass, so taking Super7 for a spin tomorrow may only cost you a bit of hard drive space and download time if you’re a subscriber.
