Football Manager 2023: New features we want

We are only a few months away from the release of Football Manager 2023, and in anticipation we are going to take a look at all the things we would love to see in Football Manager 2023.

We may not get all these – or even any of them –  but we can dream right? 

New Tactics

As football has continued to progress and the modern game keeps growing more and more complicated, it makes sense to introduce using an offensive and defensive formation in Football Manager 2023. 

If you take Manchester City as an example, they attack in a fluid 4-3-3 but when they defend it is a high pressing 4-4-2.

If in Football Manager 2023, you could do something similar, it would help give you greater control on where players are on the pitch, as well as deciding how you counter attack. 

Set Pieces

Corners could do with a bit of spruce up too. They’re effective in Football Manager 2022, but normally you set it up, find what works and then leave it at that.

You will score a few throughout a season, but it relies more on the players you have instead of the routine itself. Essentially plonking your big lads on the near and far posts is all you need to do.

Going forward you could set up multiple different routines, and choose which one you want before your set piece is about to be taken, it would certainly add some versatility to your attack.

This could even be done via bringing in a set-piece coach, something teams like Liverpool and West Ham have famously done during the last few seasons. 

Youth Teams

It would feel very realistic if you could manage the youth teams. Plenty of managers start out as a youth coach in real life, and it would go a long way to making the experience feel authentic, but also change up how your career can progress. 

It would also give you new things to worry about as a manager. If some of your players start performing too well, then they could be called up to the first team or even go out on loan to get better experience.

Then you would need to replace this player, but quickly and without making signings, it’s a fascinating proposition.

It would offer you a lot more challenges as a manager, whilst also being much more about the actual tactics than the transfers. 

Quality of Life

There are a few quality of life improvements that we need to see in Football Manager 2023. The biggest one is probably how players react to positive praise. 

It’s actually heartbreaking when your player puts in an incredible performance, but when you praise them, they just get upset with you.

Everyone loves a pat on the back, yet in Football Manager all your players are so hard to compliment.

Another small change we would love to see in Football Manager 2023, would be more variety with questions.

It’s incredibly likely this happens, as they do get a few small tweaks year on year but a bigger change for Football Manager 2023 would be nice. 

Real Journalists

It would also be a welcome addition if there were real journalists in the game. They play such a huge part of the footballing landscape now, if you’re into football you know who they are. 

The outlets already exist in the game, but being asked questions by the Football Ramble, yet it isn’t actually a member of the Ramble, does feel slightly disappointing, yet it is an easy fix.

Just imagine looking at your social feed during the transfer window and you see a Fabrizio Romano ‘here we go’ about one of your players, it’s weird but it is now a huge part of the sport.

It can’t be long until it is in Football Manager, we just hope it is in Football Manager 2023.

Stadium Builder

Lastly, and this is a very popular demand amongst Football Manager fans, the ability to build your own stadium would be amazing.

I’m not talking about putting the Sims in Football Manager 2023, but just some options that let you decide things like capacity, the shape of the ground, how it looks etc.

This would go a long way to helping make the experience a bit more realistic but also would mean your legacy at the club will last forever.
