FilmConvert has announced the availability of a new camera pack for the Canon R3 full-frame mirrorless camera for both FilmConvert Nitrate and CineMatch color grading software.
The pack provides film grain and color matching of the R3’s 24 MP full-frame sensor, with 6K Raw and 4K uncropped image resolution with 12-bit and 10-bit color information respectively.
FilmConvert defines its Nitrate plugins as “a film emulation and grain suite that gives you the beautiful, classic look of film for your project in just a few clicks.”
Designed to be able to match color footage and add a film look grain structure to video footage, FilmConvert Nitrate and Color Match apps enable post-production to use a variety of different camera platforms and create a consistent image from video file to video file.
The camera packs are based on 6K grain scans of over 19 different film stocks, and work inside the FilmConvert plugin software for preferred editing software, while the Camera Match app works independently to match each camera image.
To download the plugins for FilmConvert Nitrate users can go to the FilmConvert Camera Packs page and select the camera manufacturer (in this case Canon), and then the camera model (Canon EOS R3).
Then select the operating system, and the nearest country location to select the proper download server. Then select “download camera pack now.”
Camera Packs need the latest FilmConvert version to operate properly. That can be downloaded here. Should the user use a camera that isn’t supported with a camera pack, they can request FilmConvert create one by sending an email at this link detailing the camera and its specs.
Until then, FilmConvert states that users can use a similar camera pack and experiment with adjusting the parameters until getting the desired look.
FilmConvert’s CineMatch software requires a slightly different method for downloading. Users must go to the FilmConvert CineMatch downloads page and download the latest version of the entire software app.
Currently, it doesn’t list the Canon R3 under cameras supported, but that’s likely just a matter of updating the website itself.
There is no plugin, so users have to reinstall the entire software. FilmConvert also offers a CineMatch Workflow Guide to follow for new users.
If users haven’t purchased the FilmConvert plugin or the CineMatch software, now’s a good time to do it, since the company is running a sale and offering 20% off.
The Plugins are currently $139, while the CineMatch bundle is $199. FilmConvert also offers a free trial with all camera packs enabled and no time limit.
