So what is HDR? The best HDR gaming monitors are the ultimate for those looking to get the most out of game’s graphics, as they provide far more contrast than non-HDR monitors. That means that blacks appear ‘inky’, giving visuals a much more realistic look.
They’re also brighter than regular monitors to varying degrees. A simple way to think about it – the higher the number, the brighter it will be. So DisplayHDR 600 screens will be brighter than DisplayHDR 400 monitors, and so on.
With Black Friday monitor deals in full swing, we’ve hunted down what we think are the best of the best. And it looks like some of our top picks for the best HDMI 2.1 monitors have made the cut this year – that’ll be music to your ears Xbox Series X and PS5 owners!
Grab these while you can, because the savings are epic this year.
This year, we’ve found five monitors that really stood out from the crowd. All of them are great for gaming, and as mentioned, you’ll find more than a few with HDMI 2.1 compatibility for 4K, 144hz gaming.
We’d say the best saving has to be the ViewSonic Elite, which is down from $999.99! For most people, we’d say check out the Samsung Odyssey G7, which is an awesome monitor for gaming.
If you’re not looking for 4K, but still want something super premium, we’d recommend checking out the Acer Predator.

We’d say yes, but it depends what kind of gaming experience you want. If you want games to look their very best, it’s a must-have. If you don’t have it, you’ll find that the blacks in your game tend to look more grey instead, so if you’re exploring a cave or walking inside it doesn’t look great (in our opinion).
But for competitive gamers, you may not want to have HDR enabled in game, as it will put extra strain on your system. You may want to prioritise frames per second and perhaps even lower the resolution too in this case. In that case, you’ll want to go for one of the best 240hz gaming monitors instead.
A common question, and one that we can clear up. HDR is a technology that is concerned with contrast, brightness, and colour. 4K is a resolution. So it’s not so much the case of which is better as they concern themselves with two different areas entirely.
We’d say go for something that’s 4K and HDR, many of which you can find with our best 4K HDR monitor picks.
