The iPad 10th generation release date i.e. the iPad 2022 release date has not yet been officially confirmed by Apple, though we can make a fairly close estimation based on the information we do have, and that is sometime in the second half of September. The latest entry-level iPad, codenamed J272, is sure to be the most popular entry in the range, being the most affordable option, and with enough features for the majority of users, compared to say the latest iPad Pro 2022 edition that’s scheduled to come out within a month or so of the main iPad release. iPad 2022 release date prediction
The only major iPad 10th gen release date rumor was from known leaker @dylandkt earlier this year, though the tweet has been subsequently removed. @dylandkt pointed to ‘late 2022’ as being the period for the iPad 2022 release date, though this isn’t very specific.
Previous iPad launch dates were as follows, with the actual release date / pre-order shipping date being within 2 weeks of the launch date in each case:
- iPad 10.2 (2021) launch date: September 14th, 2021
- iPad 10.2 (2020) launch date: September 15th, 2020
- iPad 10.2 (2019) launch date: September 12th, 2019
We know that the Apple iPhone 14 event is happening at some point in September, and Apple tends to announce the base model iPads alongside their new iPhones.
All this points to a likely iPad 2022 release date in the second half of September 2022.
iPad 2022 price prediction
There isn’t any concrete information available on the iPad 2022 price, however many are speculating the same entry-level price as last year’s model, which would put it around $329 / £319 / AU$499.
iPad 10th generation design, specs & features
There have been different ‘leaked’ reports as to whether the new iPad 2022 will feature an aesthetic redesign, with the removal of the physical button. The aforementioned @dylandkt tweet which has now been deleted claimed not, whereas the Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) quarterly report claimed a redesign would take place, bringing it in line with the iPad Air and iPad Pro designs.
Either way, 9to5Mac, who previously correctly reported on the iPad Air, have however come forward with the following claims of the features of the new iPad 2022 from their sources, which do seem to be fairly likely at this stage.
Display
The new iPad 2022 is probably going to up upgraded to either a 10.5-inch screen or a 10.9-inch screen from the 10.2-inch that the standard iPads have come with the last few years. The entry-level iPad will possibly also feature a Retina display of the same resolution as the iPad Air’s display (2360 x 1640).
USB-C
The existing iPads only have Lightning connections, unlike the iPad Pro and iPad Air which also have USB-C ports, but the new iPad 2022 looks set to join them. USB-C means faster transfer speeds and much greater connectivity with a wider variety of peripherals, without the need to rely on adapters.
5G
5G network connectivity is another feature that seems very likely for the new iPad 10th gen.
A14 Bionic chip
The iPad 10th generation model is reportedly going to be equipped with the same A14 Bionic CPU chip as the iPad Air 4th gen is currently. This upgrade could lead to performance gains of around 30% over the current A13 Bionic Chip.
