Update [9:46 a.m. PT]: Microsoft has released a brief statement, saying it will expand its digital refund policy to cover Cyberpunk 2077.
“To ensure that every player can get the experience they expect on Xbox, we will be expanding our existing refund policy to offer full refunds to anyone who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally from the Microsoft Store, until further notice,” the statement reads .

The saga of Cyberpunk 2077’s current-gen console versions escalated last night with a new development: a digital delisting. Sony announced it would be offering a full refund for anyone who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 through the PlayStation Store, and that the game would be removed from the digital storefront until further notice.
“[Sony Interactive Entertainment] strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction,” reads Sony’s statement , posted yesterday evening. “Therefore we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store.”
In a message shared on CD Projekt’s investor site (PDF version), the company says the decision was undertaken following a “discussion with SIE regarding a full refund for all gamers who had purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store and want a refund at this time.” Digital copies that were already purchased will still remain available for use and still receive updates, and physical versions can also still be bought in retail stores.
CD Projekt joint-CEO Adam Kici?ski told Reuters that a possible withdrawal was not in talks with Microsoft. “We are not in such discussions with Microsoft at the moment,” Kici?ski says.
Cyberpunk 2077 launched on Dec. 10, and on day one, players on the base PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were noting some pretty big problems with their version of the futuristic RPG. Texture were taking ages to load, framerates were brutal, and the dial labelled “bugs” seemed turned up a little more than other versions of Cyberpunk 2077.
CD Projekt Red later apologized for not showing these versions of the game prior to launch. While the studio will be working to patch the game, laying out a roadmap through February 2021, it also said PS4 and Xbox One version owners could get a refund if they desired. CD Projekt Red has said it hopes players will wait for updates rather than get a refund.
Those who pursued a refund soon ran into some difficulty getting it approved through proper channels, though. Sony stepping in and making an official statement is hopefully a sign that the process will be smoother now for those who undertake it.
It hasn’t been a grand time for CD Projekt. Cyberpunk 2077 has barely been out for a week and it’s now been delisted on a major digital storefront over its console version’s issues. It piled on even more when GOG, the company’s digital distribution platform, reversed course on putting formerly delisted Taiwanese horror game Devotion on its digital store shelves. It has also faced criticism over its marketing for Cyberpunk 2077 and reports of crunch at the studio.
