Resident Evil, Monster Hunter Stories drive “record” profits at Capcom

Capcom has delivered record net sales, profits, and video game unit sales thanks to the performance of titles like Resident Evil Village and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

As noted in the company’s fiscal report for the full year ended March 31, 2022, consolidated net sales increased by 15.5 percent year on year to 110 billion yen ($846.2 million) and profits increased by 30.6 percent to 32.5 billion yen ($250 million).

Capcom said its Digital Contents business drove those results and highlighted record-high annual game sales of 32.6 million units — an increase on the 30.1 million units sold last year.
Net sales in the division totalled 87.5 billion yen, representing a year-on-year increase of 16.2 percent, while operating income increased by 22.6 percent to 45.3 billion yen.

New releases contributed significantly to that upswing, with Resident Evil Village selling 6.1 million units and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin selling 1.5 million units. Capcom added that catalog titles such as Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard also maintained their “consistent popularity.”

Glancing at the company’s mobile business, Capcom said it remains focused on supporting existing titles and claimed the sub-segment remains “stable.”

Looking ahead, Capcom expects to achieve net sales of 120 billion yen and profits of 34.5 billion yen by the end of the next fiscal year on March 31, 2023.
