TTartisan has announced their newest lens. This time, it’s an autofocus one and it’s for the Fujifilm X mount camera system. The TTartisan 27mm f/2.8 is compatible with pretty much all Fuji X cameras, offering a field of view equivalent to around 41mm on full-frame. It’s a very compact pancake-style autofocus lens that should be ideal for travel and street photography.
The all-metal construction lens has an f/2.8 aperture, which isn’t super wide but wide enough for many uses. It’ll still see quite well in the dark while offering a shallower depth of field with close-up subjects. It has an STM stepper motor AF system for smooth and quick operation and a USB-C interface for upgrading the lens firmware.
Despite having a metal (aluminium) barrel and mount, the lens is very light, weighing in at only 93g. It’s 61mm in diameter and only 29mm long, making for an extremely compact little lens. On the front is a 39mm filter thread and it has a minimum focus distance of only 35cm. The 27mm focal length provides a 56° angle of view which is similar to a 41mm focal length on full-frame systems.
TTartisan says the lens is suited to a range of photography including close-up, still life, travel and street photography. Personally, I think it’s probably best suited to the latter two most of all. Hypothetically speaking anyway. It offers a nice field of view, wider than the typical 50mm (or equivalent) standard lens, but not so wide that you’re seeing a lot of crazy perspective distortion.

The body-side cap over the lens mount also acts as a dock. So, this is one cap you’ll definitely not want to lose. It has a USB-C socket built into it, letting you update the lens firmware if and when new firmware updates are released. Whether or not you’ll be able to update other lens settings, as you can with docks for lenses from other manufacturers like Sigma, is unknown.
