Wirelessly Control Your a7 IV/a7S III with Portkeys LH5P II Monitor

Elevate your shooting experience with an on-camera monitor that does more than just monitor your footage. Filmmaker Arber Baqaj has a fun (and affordable) little monitor to show off – the Portkeys LH5P II. Its neat trick is that you can get it to wirelessly control some key settings on your Sony a7 IV or a7S III.

Remote camera control is a fairly rare feature on monitors let alone the ability to do it wirelessly. It makes the 5.5” LH5P II a very compelling offering in a category that is loaded with some very capable or much more affordable alternatives.

Portkeys has been showing up in a lot of videos lately as a recommended on-camera monitor thanks to the relative affordability and now the expanded feature sets.

The cool feature of the LH5P II in particular is that it can be configured to remotely control your camera. In this video Arber shows off controls working with the a7S III.

Many more cameras are compatible as long as they have some sort of Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity that can be configured with a remote.

Getting to the basics of the monitor, the LH5P II is well built with aluminum construction. It also has a high brightness of 2200 nits for viewing in daylight.

One thing to keep in mind is that while it does control the camera it will be using the interface Portkeys created for the monitor. It is a 5.5” touchscreen so if you aren’t a fan of touch-only controls then you might not be a huge fan.

Doing a true wireless test he hooks up a Hollyland wireless transmitter and then gets the monitor completely off camera.

Connecting the Hollyland rig along with the monitor to the camera he moves away and can still access the camera controls. If you need a remote camera this can serve the purpose and allow control of critical camera settings like ISO, shutter, and aperture.

It all looks to work extremely well. Are you impressed with this monitor?
